The Cafe Girl edition by Ian Loome Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I had a hard time for waiting to get back to this moving story of World War II. The ending was a surprise.
An interesting read with unexpected twists and turns. It is a different look at WWII than other books I have read.
this is a thriller that keeps you in the dark with a surprise ending
Well written. I found myself rooting for tirade , against my better judgment. So when he was brought down, I was pleasantly surprised. I did, however, find it a little hard to believe that that so convoluted a sting could, or would, have been brought off.
A long story, a peek into the lives of The French during WWII, their struggles and extreme desire to survive by any means against the cruelty of the arrogant Germans.
This book surprised me at the end! I thought the characters were intriguing and I couldn't wait to see what would happen to the main character Giraud- he was a man that I loved to hate. If you start this book do yourself a favor and read until the final page- the twist is great!
The story isn't about the girl at the cafe, it's about French policeman Giraud, his infatuation with her and the machinations (and imaginations) he goes through to "rescue" her. We learn that he really isn't a very nice man though he's able to convince himself otherwise. The tension mounts as the story progresses which kept me turning pages (or swiping left as the case may be since I read this on my ). Don't want to spoil things so I'll just say I never expected it to end as it did.
Not often do I read such a finely crafted book as this. A wonderful book that I enjoyed completely. I hope to read more by this author.
