I purchased SCAVENGER because I enjoyed its predecessor CREEPERS. The premise of that novel put two of the central characters of SCAVENGER in a New York Hotel about to be demolished on what amounts to an anthropological mission that turns dangerous to all and fatal to some. SCAVENGER uses the characters but ends up in both more familiar and less interesting territory. One of the two is abducted along with several other folks who have survived peril of multiple kinds. Someone is threatening their lives in a madman's game against great odds. The remaining CREEPERS character figures out enough of what's happening to ride to the rescue. Thus we have the crazy bad guy with all-but unlimited resources menacing until help arrives. I will confess that the second half of the novel, if one makes it that far, picks up momentum and satisfies. most excellent read! First you must read Creepers.
I am a big fan of David Morrell. I probably have most of his novels.
I chose this rating because it was well written and kept you guessing as to where the story would lead you. I disliked the ending. The ending was uneventful. I have read other books by David Morrell and enjoy his writing because you're always wondering what going to happen in the next chapter. Also, his characters are not complicated and you don't have any problem following the characters and the story line.
Good story that kept me totally captivated, but the ending disappointed me. Some of the Morrell books have the author telling where the idea of the book came from, not this time when I really needed it
This was a pretty exciting book!
It was a good read. I liked it because I'm a Morrell fan. It was fast paced and Iseemed to finish it too fast or something. I felt like 'is this it?' whenI got to the end. I would recommend it to true Morrell fans. I would like to see if their reaction was the same as mine at the end.
I first read Creepers while on vacation in San Diego. It was a fascinating story. I have since read it twice more. Then I discovered Scavenger and have read it twice so far. Another engaging and fascinating story from a very good author. Morrell's writing keeps you enthralled throughout with twists and turns in the story. Riveting!
